Simbavati Fynbos on Sea
Overview
Perched above the charming town of Sedgefield along South Africa’s iconic Garden Route, Fynbos on Sea is an eco-paradise offering breathtaking views of unspoiled beaches, rolling mountains, tranquil lagoons, and a vibrant fynbos wonderland.
This secluded retreat, set within a private 600-hectare nature reserve, invites guests to immerse themselves in the untouched beauty of one of the country’s most spectacular landscapes.
Our lodge features nine beautifully appointed rooms and a private, self-contained cottage, all nestled high on the dunes overlooking the vast Indian Ocean. Designed to complement the surrounding environment, each space offers a harmonious blend of comfort and nature, with expansive views that shift with the changing light of day. The reserve itself teems with life, home to eland, zebra, bushbuck, waterbuck, and a variety of bird species, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts.
Sedgefield, symbolized by the tortoise, embraces the art of ‘slow travel.’ Guests can meander along scenic nature trails that weave through fragrant fynbos, pause to watch the clouds drift by, or sit quietly with binoculars in hand, taking in the ever-changing beauty of the landscape. The region offers endless opportunities for relaxation and adventure—whether it’s a leisurely picnic, a sundowner overlooking the dramatic cliffs of Gerickes Point, or a rejuvenating morning spent listening to the sounds of the wild.
Just beyond our property, nature’s wonders await. Explore the ancient fossil dunes, stroll along secluded beaches, or kayak through the tranquil waters of the Swartvlei and Sedgefield lagoons. In summer, low tide reveals vibrant rock pools teeming with marine life, perfect for snorkeling. Nearby, a visit to a protea farm offers a glimpse into the region’s botanical heritage. For the more adventurous, this part of the Garden Route is famous for its world-class paragliding, offering an unparalleled view of the coastline from above.
Whether it’s the soft glow of sunrise over the ocean, the golden hues of sunset behind the hills, or the starlit skies that stretch endlessly overhead, every moment at Fynbos on Sea is a testament to nature’s wonder. Here, luxury and wilderness exist in perfect harmony, promising an unforgettable retreat where time slows down and the beauty of the natural world takes center stage.
