Simbavati Fynbos on Sea

Perched above the charming town of Sedgefield along South Africa’s iconic Garden Route, Fynbos on Sea is an eco-paradise offering breathtaking views of unspoiled beaches, rolling mountains, tranquil lagoons, and a vibrant fynbos wonderland. This secluded retreat, set within a private 600-hectare nature reserve, invites guests to immerse themselves in the untouched beauty of one of the country’s most spectacular landscapes.

Our lodge features nine beautifully appointed rooms and a private, self-contained cottage, all nestled high on the dunes overlooking the vast Indian Ocean. Designed to complement the surrounding environment, each space offers a harmonious blend of comfort and nature, with expansive views that shift with the changing light of day. The reserve itself teems with life, home to eland, zebra, bushbuck, waterbuck, and a variety of bird species, making it a haven for wildlife enthusiasts.

Sedgefield, symbolized by the tortoise, embraces the art of ‘slow travel.’ Guests can meander along scenic nature trails that weave through fragrant fynbos, pause to watch the clouds drift by, or sit quietly with binoculars in hand, taking in the ever-changing beauty of the landscape. The region offers endless opportunities for relaxation and adventure—whether it’s a leisurely picnic, a sundowner overlooking the dramatic cliffs of Gerickes Point, or a rejuvenating morning spent listening to the sounds of the wild.

Just beyond our property, nature’s wonders await. Explore the ancient fossil dunes, stroll along secluded beaches, or kayak through the tranquil waters of the Swartvlei and Sedgefield lagoons. In summer, low tide reveals vibrant rock pools teeming with marine life, perfect for snorkeling. Nearby, a visit to a protea farm offers a glimpse into the region’s botanical heritage. For the more adventurous, this part of the Garden Route is famous for its world-class paragliding, offering an unparalleled view of the coastline from above.

Whether it’s the soft glow of sunrise over the ocean, the golden hues of sunset behind the hills, or the starlit skies that stretch endlessly overhead, every moment at Fynbos on Sea is a testament to nature’s wonder. Here, luxury and wilderness exist in perfect harmony, promising an unforgettable retreat where time slows down and the beauty of the natural world takes center stage.

Serian’s Serengeti Lamai

The open plains of the Lamai Wedge are incredibly beautiful and abundant in game. The landscape is reminiscent of scenes from Out of Africa, and there is plenty of freedom to roam and explore. The camp is situated opposite Crossing Point 4, midway among all crossing points along the river – and is perfectly positioned to spectate the wildebeest river crossings. Away from the river, this area of rolling savannah, boulder-strewn hillsides and fig-tree groves, is littered with inconceivably enormous herds of wildebeest, topi and zebra – as well as all the predators that gorge on this movable feast. Needless to say, the game-viewing we have access to is world-class. Cheetah, lion and elephant especially make for fantastic sighting, but it’s not unheard of to see the Big Five in a day.

The seclusion of the camp means that you are free to have the run of the place. Comprising just 10 tents, the peaceful intimacy lends itself to exclusive bookings, or groups accompanied by private guides.

Selinda Camp

Set in one of the most pristine wilderness areas left on our planet, Selinda Camp rests on the banks of the Selinda Spillway, as it enters the Linyanti River. The private Selinda Reserve boasts elephants by the thousands, regular sightings of the Selinda pack of African wild dogs as well as the famous Selinda Lion Pride recently feature in the National Geographic film “Birth of a Pride” by Dereck and Beverly Joubert. The area has a sense of remoteness, a true spirit of Africa, and is a great example of Botswana bush embodying a variety of species and rare animals.

Selinda Camp, a Relais and Chateaux member, represents the meeting place of three cultures; European, Mokololo and Bayei and is themed to resemble that of the thatched village of Sangwali.

Spears, shields and an African version of Robinson Crusoe is the enduring theme through the camp, and its architectural design elements center around water, air, earth and fire, all of which ground the design. Selinda Camp’s design pays homage first and foremost to Water, with splashes of blue and crystal-clear swimming pools offering views over the equally immaculate Selinda Spillway to ease your arrival, usually by boat.

The billowing silks, which adorn the ceilings of the lounge area, are a tribute to Air and the afternoon breezes that ripple the endless sea of nearby grasses.

Earth is represented in the cornucopia of home-grown meals lovingly prepared in our kitchens, fresh from the earth, and the bright flames of our evening Fire complete the ethos of being in harmony with nature’s natural elements. There is in some cultures a fifth element, ‘metal’, which is also incorporated into the design.

The camp has three expansive guest suites and one separate two-bedroom tented villa, the Selinda Suite. The safari drives, walks, boating, tracking, birding and other bespoke viewing activities are designed to place you in front of the best wildlife the area has to offer for a unique one on one life changing experience, from leopards to elephants and hippos and aim to tick off as many as the 200 or more bird species in the area.

Saruni Samburu

Perched on a dramatic viewpoint, Saruni Samburu’s six villas are open, spacious, and positioned to make the most of one of Kenya’s most arresting landscapes. The Northern Frontier District unfolds in every direction, with Mount Kenya a distant, quietly humbling presence on the horizon.

This is elephant country. Vast herds move through the conservancy with a freedom, while the Ewaso Nyiro River threads through the arid landscape below, a lifeline that draws predators, rare species, and extraordinary wildlife encounters to those patient enough to wait and watch.

From the moment you arrive, you are in the hands of Samburu warriors who know this land the way most of us know our own homes. Their guidance its an invitation into a living culture, an ancient body of knowledge, and a way of seeing the wilderness that no guidebook can replicate.

The north has a way of getting under your skin. The scale of it, the stillness, the warmth of the people who call it home. Guests leave Saruni Samburu quietly changed and quietly planning their return.

Saruni Rhino

Saruni Rhino sits within the Sera Community Conservancy in northern Kenya, home to the first community-owned and managed rhino sanctuary in Africa. Here, you can track black rhino on foot, a privilege that exists only because the Samburu community chose to protect this land and everything that lives on it.

With just four bandas overlooking a waterhole and dry riverbed, this is one of the most intimate camps in our collection. The wildlife extends well beyond the rhino as the Samburu Special Five move through this landscape as they always have, unhurried and entirely at home.

A stay at Saruni Rhino is part safari, part conservation story. You will leave with a different understanding of what it means to protect a wilderness and of the people who have always belonged to it.
